They can build a person up, they can destroy a person. They can be helpful, they can hurt. They can be meaningful or they can be meaningless. One kind word can make a person’s day brighter, while one harsh word can devastate someone’s future. Words can give hope or words can cause hopelessness. With our words we can make someone laugh or we can make someone cry.
Once spoken, our words are forever recorded in the minds and hearts of others. Ten years from now, we may not recall what we said to someone in a flash of anger, but it is almost certain the person to whom we spoke could repeat it verbatim. Two weeks from now we may not remember a promise we made to someone, but I can guarantee the person to whom the promise was made remembers it was not kept. Twenty years from now, one kind word we spoke could become a beautiful echo in our own lives.
Our words. Can we live with those we have spoken?
